TSN/RDS Inching It's Way Further Into CIS Football

Post by cflsteve » Thu Nov 08, 2012 12:22 pm

As of last season TSN and sister French sportsnet RDS had exclusive TV rights to both National Semi Final games and the Vanier Cup. RDS also has the Rights to all of Lavals home games.
This season they have taken it a step further and have acquired the Rights to the CanWest Hardy cup. bringing the Hardy cup from a regional audience with shawTV to a national audience with TSN. With Laval hosting the Dunsmore cup I would guess the RDS will be televising that game which should draw a huge Regional audience in Quebec with French schools Lavalle and Sherbrooke participating. The Score still owns exclusive TV rights to all OUA football so the OUA will continue to have National coverage of the Yates Cup. Leaving only the AUS and the Loney Bowl without national coverage with Eastlink televising the game regionally.
With the Score being bought out by Rogers this may leave the door open for TSN to grab the rights to the OUA.
The Q is the only conference without even a regional network provider with the exception of the RDS coverage of Laval Home games.
If this trend continues especially with Sherbrooke and Montreal now becoming a real threat to Lavall each season I would think that at least RDS would have a full slate of games in which Montreal, sherbrooke, and Laval are match against each other either on RDS or RDS2.
With the all Of the OUA schools and others from the other conferences now having big time sponsorship with top companies such as NIKE, ADDIDAS, RUSSEL, and UNDER AMOUR. It may be time for the CIS to sit down with TSN/RDS and schedule a interlock game of the week on TSN/RDS featuring the top schools from each conference pairing off against each other.

Any thoughts ?

looks like we had to wait until the Vanier to see the top 2 teams interlock. should be another classic. judging from the bowl games it seems that these 2 teams are in a class of their own.

30,000 tickets already sold. the 500 section will be open for this one. the all-time record is 32,847 in 1989.
Grey Cup 102. Back to school.
