OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27

We are mere hours away from the first OHT27 of 2013. I know that many of you just cannot wait. But with the OUA playing on a Monday, and two of the games being evening games, the official results cannot be compiled. In order to maintain the OHT27 reputation as the most authoritative rankings in CIS football, this is just the way it has to be.

Your #1 question is probably: "Who will be your lovely assistants this year?"

Well, here's a hint:

And here are the links for past threads, for those who would like a stroll down memory lane:

2010 thread
2011 thread
2012 thread

Before I leave, here's a tease: In the Canada West region the #1 ranked team like banjo music and drinking from toilets. And in the Quebec-Atlantic region the #1 ranked team are "derrieres".

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 1

This year the OHT27 is hitting the ground running with no pre-season crappola. Just real rankings, for real people. This is week 1 because it is week 1 for everybody outside the OUA.

This year's enhancement will be Canadian-born divas of professional wrestling. This week we start with Rosa Mendes. Though generally billed as Puerto Rican, she is a Vancouver girl. Wouldn't you like to see her give a little shake on the sidelines of a UBC game?

Toronto 27 Laurier 20

RSEQ Regular Season

Sherbrooke 27 Bishop's 28

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Saskatchewan (1-0, 2-0) beat UBC# Reg
2 Regina (0-1, 1-1) beat Man# lost to Sask
3 Manitoba (1-0, 1-1) beat Alta lost to Reg#
4 Calgary (1-0, 1-1) beat UBC lost to Lav#
5 UBC (0-1, 0-2) lost to Sask# Cal
6 Alberta (0-1, 0-1) lost to Man

Image Are Calgary over-rated by the pundits? We shall soon find out. For now, they are a team that barely beat a UBC team that had their arses handed to them by Sask, who barely beat Regina, who barely beat Manitoba. Laval beat them up better than they did to McGill. So Team Bedrock dips to #4 in the CW.

ONTARIO

1 Queen's (2-0, 2-0) beat York McM
2 W. Ontario (2-0, 2-0) beat Tor Carl
3 Guelph (2-0, 2-0) beat Laur Wind
4 McMaster (1-1, 1-1) beat Ott lost to Que
5 Windsor (1-1, 1-1) beat Wat lost to Gue
6 Ottawa (1-1, 1-1) beat Wat lost to McM
7 Toronto (1-1, 1-1-1) beat Laur lost to WO tied Conc#
8 Laurier (0-2, 0-2) lost to Gue Tor
9 Waterloo (0-2, 0-2) lost to Wind Ott
10 York (0-1, 0-1) lost to Que
11 Carleton (0-1, 0-2) lost to Sher# WO

Image Ranking the teams in the OUA is quite hard because there is such a huge discrepancy between the teams. What's better? A 51 point win over York or a 67 point win over Carleton? The Queens edged the Urban Cowboys because at least they beat Macaroni. And foir teams in the middle, what's better? A 36 point loss to the Urban Cowboys or a 27 point loss to Macaroni?

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Montreal (1-0, 2-0) beat McG# Conc
2 Laval (1-0, 2-0) beat Cal# McG
3 Bishop's (1-0, 1-0) beat Sher
4 Sherbrooke (0-1, 1-1) beat Car# lost to Bish
5 Acadia (0-0, 1-0) beat SFX#
6 Saint Mary's (0-0, 1-0) beat MtA#
7 McGill (0-1, 0-2) lost to Mtl# Lav
8 St. F-X (0-0, 0-1) lost to Aca#
9 Concordia (0-1, 0-1-1) lost to Mtl tied Tor#
10 Mount Allison (0-0, 0-1) lost to SMU#

Image It is hard to declare anybody a jabroni before playing a regular season game. Will the AUS become "jabronis-R-us"? We'll see. For now, Montreal gets #1 over Laval due to margin of victory and the rest just kind of fall into place.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

"CONTENDERS"
None yet.

"ABOVE THE BLOB"
1 Montreal (1-0, 2-0) beat McG# Conc
2 Queen's (2-0, 2-0) beat York McM
3 Laval (1-0, 2-0) beat Cal# McG
4 W. Ontario (2-0, 2-0) beat Tor Carl

"THE BLOB"
5 Saskatchewan (1-0, 2-0) beat UBC# Reg
6 Regina (0-1, 1-1) beat Man# lost to Sask
7 Guelph (2-0, 2-0) beat Laur Wind
8 Manitoba (1-0, 1-1) beat Alta lost to Reg#
9 McMaster (1-1, 1-1) beat Ott lost to Que
10 Calgary (1-0, 1-1) beat UBC lost to Lav#
11 Bishop's (1-0, 1-0) beat Sher
12 Windsor (1-1, 1-1) beat Wat lost to Gue
13 Sherbrooke (0-1, 1-1) beat Car# lost to Bish
14 Acadia (0-0, 1-0) beat SFX#
15 Ottawa (1-1, 1-1) beat Wat lost to McM
16 UBC (0-1, 0-2) lost to Sask# Cal
17 Saint Mary's (0-0, 1-0) beat MtA#
18 McGill (0-1, 0-2) lost to Mtl# Lav
19 St. F-X (0-0, 0-1) lost to Aca#

"THE HAM 'N EGGERS"
20 Alberta (0-1, 0-1) lost to Man
21 Concordia (0-1, 0-1-1) lost to Mtl tied Tor#
22 Toronto (1-1, 1-1-1) beat Laur lost to WO tied Conc#
23 Laurier (0-2, 0-2) lost to Gue Tor
24 Mount Allison (0-0, 0-1) lost to SMU#
25 Waterloo (0-2, 0-2) lost to Wind Ott
26 York (0-1, 0-1) lost to Que
27 Carleton (0-1, 0-2) lost to Sher# WO

"THE JABRONIS"
None yet.

Image Although no teams have hit Jabroni status, the bottom 3 are on a Jabroni-alert. They have had some devastating losses already. As usual, remember the caution. These rankings have teams very close together and jumps of several places each week are possible, especially early on.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 2

This is a funny year. Pre-season favourites like Laval and Calgary have looked quite ordinary so far. Yet, they have still won games. Does this mean they are still the best and just waiting for a chance to kick it into high gear?

And for those who were taking side bets on the first to jabroni status, this is your lucky week.

In honour of the question mark hanging over Calgary, this week's feature Diva is none other than Natalya!

PRIOR OHT27s:

STEP 1: WEEK 2 RESULTS

AUS

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

4 Manitoba (1-1, 1-2) beat Alta lost to Reg# Sask
5 UBC (1-1, 1-2) beat Alta lost to Sask# Cal
6 Alberta (0-2, 0-2) lost to Man UBC

Image The CW has had so many tight games so far. And high scoring, too. Regina's 27 points this week against Calgary are the lowest total of the regular season. These rankings just fall into place.

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (3-0, 3-0) beat Tor Carl* McM
2 Queen's (3-0, 3-0) beat York McM Wind
3 Guelph (2-0, 2-0) beat Laur* Wind

10 Laurier (0-3, 0-3) lost to Gue Tor York
11 Carleton (0-2, 0-3) lost to Sher# WO Wat

Image The one-sided games are becoming a real curse in the OUA this year. And there are huge gulfs between teams that are just one or two places apart.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Montreal (2-0, 3-0) beat McG# Conc Bish
2 Laval (2-0, 3-0) beat Cal# McG Sher
3 Bishop's (1-1, 1-1) beat Sher lost to Mtl

9 Concordia (0-2, 0-2-1) tied Tor# lost to Mtl McG
10 Mount Allison (0-1, 0-2) lost to SMU# SFX

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 3

The results of this week are significant. The AUS-RSEQ interlock has shown us that the middle of the AUS (Acadia and SFX) is on par with the middle of the Q (Bishop's and McGill), and both seem to be a tick below the middle of the CW (Regina and Manitoba) and a tick above the OUA (Windsor, Ottawa, York). The CW is having a wild year of high-powered offence. This gives even the weak teams a “puncher's chance”, to borrow boxing vernacular. In comparison to the O and the Q, the CW highs are not as high, and the lows are not as low. The OUA is the most extreme conference. The lump at their rear is bigger than they would like.

In honour of the underdog, this week's OHT27 is brought to you by Allison Danger, a now-retired diva who never did catch on with the WWE. The former Winnipegger now lives in Vegas.

Image Image

PRIOR OHT27s:
2012 – final
week 1
week 2

STEP 1: WEEK 3 RESULTS

CWUAA
Manitoba 36 UBC 32
Saskatchewan 24 Calgary 36
Regina 55 Alberta 35

OUA
Guelph 38 Toronto 12
Carleton 14 Windsor 44
York 27 McMaster 41
Ottawa 27 Western Ontario 83
Laurier 41 Waterloo 10

RSEQ-AUS
McGill 48 Mount Allison 17
Laval 26 Acadia 14
St. Francis-Xavier 35 Concordia 18
Saint Mary's 10 Montreal 29
Bishop's 22 Sherbrooke 21

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (3-0, 3-1) beat UBC Reg Sask lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (2-1, 3-1) beat UBC# Reg Man lost to Cal
3 Regina (1-2, 2-2) beat Man# Alta lost to Sask Cal
4 Manitoba (2-1, 2-2) beat Alta UBC lost to Reg# Sask
5 UBC (1-2, 1-3) beat Alta lost to Sask# Cal Man
6 Alberta (0-3, 0-3) lost to Man UBC Reg

Image The high scoring continues. Sask's 24 is the new season low for points. Calgary's win moves them into first place in the regional ranking.

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (4-0, 4-0) beat Tor Carl* McM Ott
2 Queen's (3-0, 3-0) beat York McM Wind
3 Guelph (3-0, 3-0) beat Laur* Wind Tor
4 McMaster (2-2, 2-2) beat Ott York lost to Que WO
5 Windsor (2-2, 2-2) beat Wat* Carl lost to Gue Que
6 Ottawa (2-2, 2-2) beat Wat* Tor lost to McM WO
7 York (1-2, 1-2) beat Laur* lost to Que McM
8 Toronto (1-3, 1-3-1) beat Laur* tied Conc# lost to WO Ott Gue
9 Laurier (1-3, 1-3) beat Wat* lost to Gue Tor York
10 Waterloo (1-3, 1-3) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur
11 Carleton (0-3, 0-4) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind

Image Waterloo's loss to Laurier drops them into Jabroniville. York and Toronto are not there just yet, but could be soon. The OUA is the conference of extremes. Here are the margins of victory so far:
week 0: 51, 14, 36, 67, 27
week 1: 1, 12, 7, 67, 27
week 2: 43, 24, 15, 13, 39

Only 2 of 15 games have been decided by a TD or less. In fact, only 4 more games have been decided by less than 3 TDs! In fact, 6 of 15 games have been decided by 35 points (5 TDs) or more!

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Montreal (3-0, 4-0) beat McG# Conc Bish SMU
2 Laval (3-0, 4-0) beat Cal# McG Sher Aca
4 Saint Mary's (1-1, 2-1) beat MtA# Aca lost to Mtl
3 Bishop's (2-1, 2-1) beat Sher Sher lost to Mtl
6 Acadia (0-2, 1-2) beat SFX# lost to SMU Lav
5 Sherbrooke (0-3, 1-3) beat Carl#* lost to Bish Lav Bish
7 McGill (2-1, 2-2) beat Conc MtA lost to Mtl# Lav
8 St. F-X (2-0, 2-1) beat MtA Conc lost to Aca#
9 Concordia (0-3, 0-3-1) tied Tor# lost to Mtl McG SFX
10 Mount Allison (0-2, 0-3) lost to SMU# SFX McG

Image SMU jumps ahead of Bishop's and Acadia ahead of Sherbrooke. I was tempted to put Acadia ahead of Bishops's as well. Places 3-8 are subject to a lot of shifting in coming weeks. Concordia and Mount A are on jabroni-alert. Ontreal, again, had a better performance than Laval.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

"CONTENDERS"
1 W. Ontario (4-0, 4-0) beat Tor Carl* McM Ott
2 Montreal (3-0, 4-0) beat McG# Conc Bish SMU

"ABOVE THE BLOB"
3 Laval (3-0, 4-0) beat Cal# McG Sher Aca
4 Queen's (3-0, 3-0) beat York McM Wind
5 Calgary (3-0, 3-1) beat UBC Reg Sask lost to Lav#
6 Saskatchewan (2-1, 3-1) beat UBC# Reg Man lost to Cal

"THE BLOB"
7 Guelph (3-0, 3-0) beat Laur* Wind Tor
8 Regina (1-2, 2-2) beat Man# Alta lost to Sask Cal
9 Manitoba (2-1, 2-2) beat Alta UBC lost to Reg# Sask
10 Saint Mary's (1-1, 2-1) beat MtA# Aca lost to Mtl
11 McMaster (2-2, 2-2) beat Ott York lost to Que WO
12 Bishop's (2-1, 2-1) beat Sher Sher lost to Mtl
13 Acadia (0-2, 1-2) beat SFX# lost to SMU Lav
14 UBC (1-2, 1-3) beat Alta lost to Sask# Cal Man
15 Windsor (2-2, 2-2) beat Wat* Carl lost to Gue Que
16 Sherbrooke (0-3, 1-3) beat Carl#* lost to Bish Lav Bish
17 Ottawa (2-2, 2-2) beat Wat* Tor lost to McM WO
18 St. F-X (2-0, 2-1) beat MtA Conc lost to Aca#
19 McGill (2-1, 2-2) beat Conc MtA lost to Mtl# Lav

"THE HAM 'N EGGERS"
20 Alberta (0-3, 0-3) lost to Man UBC Reg
21 York (1-2, 1-2) beat Laur* lost to Que McM
22 Concordia (0-3, 0-3-1) tied Tor# lost to Mtl McG SFX
23 Toronto (1-3, 1-3-1) beat Laur* tied Conc# lost to WO Ott Gue
24 Mount Allison (0-2, 0-3) lost to SMU# SFX McG

"THE JABRONIS"
25 Laurier (1-3, 1-3) beat Wat* lost to Gue Tor York
26 Waterloo (1-3, 1-3) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur
27 Carleton (0-3, 0-4) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind

Image The Urban Cowboys have jumped to #1 and, with Montreal, are currently the only confirmed “contenders”. Laval's results fall short of contender status. Their regular season wins have been over teams ranked #13, #16, and #19. Amongst The Blob, #7-#12 are exceptionally close and could move up. At the bottom, Alberta is your lead ham'n'egger. The rest could well be on their way down.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 4

Most things went by the book this weekend. The Mounted beat the SMUskies in an upset, Montreal blew a chance to bury Laval, UBC edged Regina, and Guelph took McMac in what would have to be considered the key ratings-games. You know who is under-rated? Former WWE diva and Toronto gal Gail Kim! One of my favourites, and I am sure you will appreciate her inspiration in this week's picks.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (4-0, 4-1) beat UBC Reg Sask Man lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (3-1, 4-1) beat UBC# Reg Man Alta lost to Cal
3 Manitoba (2-2, 2-3) beat Alta UBC lost to Reg# Sask Cal
4 UBC (2-2, 2-3) beat Alta Reg lost to Sask# Cal Man
5 Regina (1-3, 2-3) beat Man# Alta lost to Sask Cal UBC
6 Alberta (0-4, 0-4) lost to Man UBC Reg Sask

Image UBC's win over Regina forces Regina to take the down escalator. Maybe one day they will build one in Regina!

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (5-0, 5-0) beat Tor Carl* McM Ott Laur*
2 Queen's (4-0, 4-0) beat York McM Wind Ott
3 Guelph (4-0, 4-0) beat Laur* Wind Tor McM
4 McMaster (2-3, 2-3) beat Ott York lost to Que WO Gue
5 Windsor (3-2, 3-2) beat Wat* Carl Tor lost to Gue Que
6 Ottawa (2-3, 2-3) beat Wat* Tor lost to McM WO Que
7 York (2-2, 2-2) beat Laur* Carl* lost to Que McM
8 Toronto (1-4, 1-4-1) beat Laur* tied Conc# lost to WO Ott Gue Wind
9 Laurier (1-4, 1-4) beat Wat* lost to Gue Tor York WO
10 Waterloo (1-3, 1-3) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur
11 Carleton (0-4, 0-5) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind York

Image The top 3 in the OUA can now be etched in stone. One good thing this week was that Guelph and McMac had a tight game. Would have been nice if Laurier could have beaten the Urban Cowboys. But Jabroniism is not easily cured. In the end, no rankings change within the OUA this time around.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

9 Mount Allison (1-2, 1-3) beat SMU lost to SMU# SFX McG
10 Concordia (0-4, 0-4-1) tied Tor# lost to Mtl McG SFX Bish

Image Laval leap-frogs Montreal with the big (though not awe-inspiring) win. I have not altered the order of the AUS rankings. The Mountie win over SMU still looks like the odd result because SMU beat Acadia who beat SFX who beat Mount A. But Bishop's move up and Concordia down as the AUS teams get smushed together.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 5

The CW and OUA are easy to rank. But the Q and A is one bug mess. In honour of Manitoba's homecoming weekend, this week's Diva is Winnipegger Sarah Stock, aka “Sarita”.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (5-0, 5-1) beat UBC Reg Sask Man Alta lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (4-1, 5-1) beat UBC# Reg Man Alta UBC lost to Cal
3 Manitoba (3-2, 3-3) beat Alta UBC Reg lost to Reg# Sask Cal

5 Regina (1-4, 2-4) beat Man# Alta lost to Sask Cal UBC Man
6 Alberta (0-5, 0-5) lost to Man UBC Reg Sask Cal

Image This was the easiest ranking ever. Everybody has played each other once, so there you go.

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (6-0, 6-0) beat Tor Carl* McM Ott Laur* Que
2 Queen's (4-1, 4-1) beat York McM Wind Ott lost to WO

10 Waterloo (1-4, 1-4) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur Gue
11 Carleton (0-5, 0-6) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind York Tor

Image No upsets, no change in the rankings. The Queens stay 2nd ahead of Guelph because their results have been better.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (5-0, 6-0) beat Cal# McG Sher Aca Mtl Bish
2 Bishop's (3-2, 3-2) beat Sher Sher Conc lost to Mtl Lav
3 Montreal (3-2, 4-2) beat McG# Conc Bish SMU lost to Lav Sher

8 St. F-X (2-2, 2-3) beat MtA Conc lost to Aca# Aca SMU
9 Mount Allison (1-3, 1-4) beat SMU lost to SMU# SFX McG Aca
10 Concordia (0-5, 0-5-1) tied Tor# lost to Mtl McG SFX Bish McG

Image Now this is where things get tricky. Bishop's beat Sherbrooke (twice) who beat Montreal who beat Bishop's. SMU beat Acadia and SFX who both beat Mt. A. who beat SMU. Well, in the AUS it is easy to look at MtA's win over SMU as the odd one out. For one thing, SMU beat MtA in pre-season (minor point). For another, that was their only win, and they played McGill. One could make a case that the rankings from #2 to #6 in this region could be switched about. In the end, Bishop's. Montreal, and Sherbrooke are one lump, SMU and Acadia the next one, then the rest fill in the end.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

Image This one was tough because of the problem of interspersing the Q and A teams. In the end, Bishop's moves Above the Blob. But Sherbrooke stays in The Blob just behind Manitoba and McMaster. McGill and SFX are looking like potential Ham'n'Eggers.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 6

This was a pivotal week in the rankings. Many teams shifted, and some even switched categories. Movin' down: Saskatchewan (moves back into The Blob) and Concordia (joins the Jabronis). Movin' up: Laurier bids farewell to the Jabronis!

This week I needed heightened powers of concentration which could only come from former WWE hostess Angela Fong, known as Savannah in her WWE days. She is yet another Vancouver hottie, although far be it from me to judge her simply on her looks. I happen to think she would add a certain spice to the Shaw-TV broadcasts out west.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (6-0, 6-1) beat UBC Reg Sask Man Alta Sask lost to Lav#

5 Regina (2-4, 2-4) beat Man# Alta Alta lost to Sask Cal UBC Man
6 Alberta (0-6, 0-6) lost to Man UBC Reg Sask Cal Reg

Image Manitoba and UBC are now joined at the hip. Otherwise the conference stays the same.

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (7-0, 7-0) beat Tor Carl* McM Ott Laur Que Wind
2 Queen's (5-1, 5-1) beat York McM Wind Ott Laur lost to WO
3 Guelph (6-0, 6-0) beat Laur Wind Tor McM Wat* York
4 McMaster (3-3, 2-3) beat Ott York Wat* lost to Que WO Gue
5 Windsor (4-3, 4-3) beat Wat* Carl* Tor Laur lost to Gue Que WO
6 Ottawa (4-3, 4-3) beat Wat* Tor York Carl* lost to McM WO Que
7 York (2-4, 2-4) beat Laur Carl* lost to Que McM Ott Gue
8 Toronto (2-4, 2-4-1) beat Laur Carl* tied Conc# lost to WO Ott Gue Wind
9 Laurier (1-6, 1-6) beat Wat* lost to Gue Tor York WO Wind Que
10 Waterloo (1-5, 1-5) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur Gue McM
11 Carleton (0-6, 0-7) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind York Tor Ott

Image It would be nice if Laurier actually won one of these close games. As it is they cannot move up having lost to both teams from the Big Lemon, and neither of those teams comes remotely close to beating anybody half-decent.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (6-0, 7-0) beat Cal# McG Sher Aca Mtl Bish Conc*
2 Bishop's (4-2, 3-2) beat Sher Sher Conc* McG lost to Mtl Lav
3 Montreal (4-2, 5-2) beat McG# Conc* Bish SMU Sher lost to Lav Sher

9 Mount Allison (1-4, 1-5) beat SMU lost to SMU# SFX McG Aca SFX
10 Concordia (0-6, 0-6-1) tied Tor# lost to Mtl McG SFX Bish McG Lav

Image This is the hardest zone to rank. Sherbrooke slips with their loss but interspersing #2 to #7 is quite hard. It seems somebody always lays an egg just when they start looking good.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

"CONTENDERS"

18 Regina (2-4, 2-4) beat Man# Alta Alta lost to Sask Cal UBC Man
19 McGill (3-3, 3-4) beat Conc* MtA Conc* lost to Mtl# Lav Sher Bish

"THE HAM 'N EGGERS"
20 Alberta (0-6, 0-6) lost to Man UBC Reg Sask Cal Reg
21 Mount Allison (1-4, 1-5) beat SMU lost to SMU# SFX McG Aca SFX
22 York (2-4, 2-4) beat Laur Carl* lost to Que McM Ott Gue
23 Toronto (2-4, 2-4-1) beat Laur Carl* tied Conc# lost to WO Ott Gue Wind

26 Waterloo (1-5, 1-5) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur Gue McM
27 Carleton (0-6, 0-7) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind York Tor Ott

Image At the top, nothing happened to alter The Contenders. The remaining teams Above the Blob are almost in a dead heat. Of the teams in The Blob, I could see any of the #8 to #14 making the Top Ten with the right results. Windsor and Ottawa are a subset of their own. St. F-X, Regina, and McGill are trying to dodge banana peels. Any slip and they could be Ham'n'Eggers.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 7

No games in Quebec. No games in the West. Fans from coast to coast taking time away to stuff their faces. So in choosing a wrestling diva, should I go positive with the loveley Marysse Oulette?
Image

Or should the fans be scared straight with Luna Vachon?
Image

Both are from Quebec. So they could draw attention from those distracted by a bye week. But Maryse was scheduled for week 8. In the end, I am going with Maryse. There are just so many pictures of her out there, enough to handle a partial week followed by a full week.. The problem is that she often forgot to wear clothes when being photographed.

Image St. F-X drop into the Ham'n'Egger category is the biggest event of the short week. The OUA results had little impact outside of their conference. At the mid-lower range, the AUS results produced a lot of shuffles. One would think Acadia would beat SMU once in three tries if they were to be a good Blob team. A case could be made that McGill, Regina, and Acadia should all be ham'n'eggers, and everybody after Toronto should be jabronis. Let's see what happens next.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 8

We have now reached the penultimate OHT27. The OUA regular season is done. And this is the time for much winnowing in the rankings. Some may find it controversial. But when you watch Maryse's action photos you will see that ruthless aggression and beauty can co-exist. And that is what this ranking has.

PRIOR OHT27s:

week 4 : week 5 : week 6
week 7

STEP 1: WEEK 8 RESULTS

CWUAA

Alberta 0 UBC 60

OUA
McMaster 45 Carleton 3
Guelph 23 Queen's 37
Windsor 15 Ottawa 45
Waterloo 18 Toronto 50
York 10 W. Ontario 40

RSEQ

Montreal 28 McGill 3
Sherbrooke 3 Laval 38

AUS

St. F-X 11 Acadia 27

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (7-0, 7-1) beat UBC Reg Sask Man Alta* Sask Reg lost to Lav#
2 Manitoba (4-3, 4-4) beat Alta* UBC Reg Sask lost to Reg# Sask Cal UBC
3 Saskatchewan (4-3, 5-3) beat UBC# Reg Man Alta* UBC lost to Cal Cal Man
4 UBC (4-3, 4-4) beat Alta* Reg Man Alta* lost to Sask# Cal Man Sask
5 Regina (2-5, 3-5) beat Man# Alta* Alta* lost to Sask Cal UBC Man Cal
6 Alberta (0-7, 0-7) lost to Man UBC Reg Sask Cal Reg UBC

Image This is tough. Teams 2-4 are in a dead heat. If all goes according to rankings next week, they'll finish as above.

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (8-0, 8-0) beat Tor Carl* McM Ott Laur* Que Wind York*
2 Queen's (7-1, 7-1) beat York* McM Wind Ott Laur* Wat* Gue lost to WO
3 Guelph (7-1, 7-1) beat Laur* Wind Tor McM Wat* York* Carl* lost to Que
4 McMaster (5-3, 5-3) beat Ott York* Wat* Laur* Carl* lost to Que WO Gue
5 Ottawa (5-3, 5-3) beat Wat* Tor York* Carl* Wind lost to McM WO Que
6 Windsor (4-4, 4-4) beat Wat* Carl* Tor Laur* lost to Gue Que WO Ott
7 Toronto (4-4, 4-4-1) beat Laur* Carl* York* Wat* tied Conc# lost to WO Ott Gue Wind
8 York (2-6, 2-6) beat Laur* Carl* lost to Que McM Ott Gue Tor WO
9 Laurier (1-7, 1-7) beat Wat* lost to Gue Tor York* WO Wind Que McM
10 Waterloo (1-7, 1-7) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur* Gue McM Que Tor
11 Carleton (0-8, 0-9) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind York* Tor Ott Gue McM

Image Ottawa finally jumps over sinking Windsor with the head-to-head win. The CIS-wide winnowing also leads many OUA teams down a category. The OUA is the most extreme conference in Canada. To put it in perspective, Toronto drew Concordia in pre-season. If they were to play now, it would be close. Yet Toronto went 4-4 and Concordia is 0-7, and the top 6 in the OUA match up well with the top 5 in the Q.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (7-0, 8-0) beat Cal# McG Sher Aca Mtl Bish Conc* Sher
2 Montreal (5-2, 6-2) beat McG# Conc* Bish SMU Sher McG* lost to Lav Sher

Image OK, 1-3 were easy. 10 was easy. 4-6? 7-9? Not so much.

Image As you can see, Guelph slips into The Blob, McGill and Regina slip into the Ham'n'Eggers, and Alberta, York and Laurier are now Jabronis. No Jabroni has beaten somebody who is not also a Jabroni. The only Ham'n'Egger with a win against The Blob is Mount Allison, with their two wins over SMU. For everybody else, these are their records against teams in The Blob or higher:
1 W. Ontario 4-0

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 9

The regular season has come to an end, which makes this the final OHT27 of the season. And to brighten the spirits, there is really only one Canadian Diva up to the task – TRISH STRATUS! That's right, the WWE's all-time diva is here.

ImageImage

PRIOR OHT27s:
2012 – final
week 1 : week 2 : week 3
week 4 : week 5 : week 6
week 7 : week 8

STEP 1: WEEK 9 RESULTS

CWUAA

OUA
Ottawa 7 McMaster 41

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ^ are playoff games.

CANADA WEST
Image

1 Calgary (8-0, 8-1) beat UBC Reg Sask Man Alta* Sask Reg UBC lost to Lav#
2 Manitoba (5-3, 5-4) beat Alta* UBC Reg Sask Alta* lost to Reg# Sask Cal UBC
3 Saskatchewan (5-3, 6-3) beat UBC# Reg Man Alta* UBC Reg lost to Cal Cal Man
4 UBC (4-4, 4-5) beat Alta* Reg Man Alta* lost to Sask# Cal Man Sask Cal
5 Regina (2-6, 3-6) beat Man# Alta* Alta* lost to Sask Cal UBC Man Cal Sask
6 Alberta (0-8, 0-8) lost to Man UBC Reg Sask Cal Reg UBC Man

Image The final week ended as expected, so the rankings can stay the same. Calgary had a much better than expected record, in fact the best record they have ever had. The early wild west results and last minute deciders eventually gave way to a conference where nobody could beat Calgary, and nobody could lose to Regina or Alberta. Does all of this tell us that Calgary is actually better than last year?

ONTARIO
Image

1 W. Ontario (8-0, 8-0) beat Tor Carl* McM Ott Laur* Que Wind York*
2 Queen's (7-1, 7-1) beat York* McM Wind Ott Laur* Wat* Gue lost to WO
3 Guelph (7-1, 8-1) beat Laur* Wind Tor McM Wat* York* Carl* Wind^ lost to Que

5 Ottawa (5-3, 5-4) beat Wat* Tor York* Carl* Wind lost to McM WO Que McM^

7 Toronto (4-4, 4-4-1) beat Laur* Carl* York* Wat* tied Conc# lost to WO Ott Gue Wind
8 York (2-6, 2-6) beat Laur* Carl* lost to Que McM Ott Gue Tor WO
9 Laurier (1-7, 1-7) beat Wat* lost to Gue Tor York* WO Wind Que McM
10 Waterloo (1-7, 1-7) beat Carl* lost to Wind Ott Laur* Gue McM Que Tor
11 Carleton (0-8, 0-9) lost to Sher# WO Wat* Wind York* Tor Ott Gue McM

Image This was a quarter-final week in the OUA. It is hard to ignore games which are being played. But since the favourites won nobody changes rankings. Consistent with the OUA's theme this year, the #4 team whipped the #5 team. Will the whippings continue in the #1 v #4 and #2 v #3 games? The more I look at the results the more it seems to me that the anomaly is Guelph's win over McMaster. Since the OHT27 recognizes what actually happened, Guelph stays at #3.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC
Image

1 Laval (8-0, 9-0) beat Cal# McG Sher Aca Mtl Bish Conc* Sher Mtl
2 Montreal (5-3, 6-3) beat McG# Conc* Bish SMU Sher McG lost to Lav Sher Lav
3 Bishop's (6-2, 6-2) beat Sher Sher Conc* McG Conc* McG lost to Mtl Lav
4 Saint Mary's (5-3, 6-3) beat MtA# Aca SFX Aca Aca SFX lost to Mtl MtA MtA
5 Mount Allison (4-4, 4-5) beat SMU SFX SMU Aca lost to SMU# SFX McG Aca SFX
6 Acadia (3-5, 4-5) beat SFX# SFX MtA SFX lost to SMU Lav SMU SMU MtA
7 Sherbrooke (3-5, 4-5) beat Carl#* McG Mtl Conc* lost to Bish Lav Bish Mtl Lav
8 McGill (3-5, 3-6) beat Conc* MtA Conc* lost to Mtl# Lav Sher Bish Mtl Bish
9 St. F-X (3-5, 3-6) beat MtA Conc* MtA lost to Aca# Aca SMU MtA Aca SMU
10 Concordia (0-8, 0-8-1) tied Tor# lost to Mtl McG SFX Bish McG Lav Bish Sher

Image First, Montreal stays ahead of Bishop's due to the scheduling. Bishop's had two games against Concordia whilst Montreal had two with Laval, and that was the difference in their records.

Second, the AUS was crazy this year. The craziness was largely due to Mount Allison, and the difficulties they posed in blending the two conferences. Here were their scores:
Sep. 7 Mount Allison 10 St. F-X 31
Sep. 14 McGill 48 Mount Allison 17
Sep. 20 Saint Mary's 15 Mount Allison 29
Sep. 28 Mount Allison 9 Acadia 40
Oct. 5 Mount Allison 9 St. F-X 30
Oct. 12 St. F-X 13 Mount Allison 42
Oct. 18 Mount Allison 27 Saint Mary's 24
Oct. 26 Acadia 14 Mount Allison 23

In their first five games, they had two 21-point losses and two 31-point losses, wrapped around a win over SMU. In total, those results made it seem that the SMU result was the oddball, and the rest made sense. But they ended the season with a win over each other AUS foe. So should we say that the results show that the Q's #5 is 31 points better than the AUS #2 and move the whole AUS down? Or do we consider Acadia, and say that the Q's #1 team is only 12 points better than the #3 team in the AUS and move the whole AUS up?

In the end the decision was that Mount Allison was simply better at the end of the year then they were at the start. And Acadia may have been close to Laval at the start, but by the end they had slipped. So moving Mount Allison ahead of McGill would be justified, and the top 3 of the AUS were slipped in between Bishop's and Sherbrooke.

The hardest decision was then McGill/St. F-X. The committee gave it to McGill by the slimmest of margins.
