Rookie of the Year 2011?

Postby cossack » Tue Jun 07, 2011 1:34 pm

Every year at this time CFL fans start to get excited about rookies that have a strong showing in training camp. Some of them will go on to star in the CFL for years to come, others, not so much. So who is the new guy getting all the attention on your favourite team?
For the Ticats all the buzz has been about Aaron Kelly a 6 foot 5 rookie receiver that has been drawing rave reviews during camp.
Should be fun to look back on this thread at the end of the season and see who became rookie of the year and who was a rookie that didn't last a year.

Don;t know if an O-lineman has ever won the rookie award. Can anybody think of one?

I already like his nickname. They call him "The Flyin Nunn"

Wheelright looks like a contender, as well as Gore.

It's tough because no one notices OL until a qb sack or a back has no holes to run through.

When it comes to rookies, it's really all about who puts up stats.

I like Muamba but he's in a stacked front 7 which will bring down his tackles.

I'll go with Wheelwright because he's gonna play a key role in that offense and rack up numbers.

But there will probably somewhere be some o-lineman that very quietly steps up and plays well and doesn't get noticed, or some DB who very quietly locks down the weak half but doesn't ballhawk much and so his statline of 30 tackles and 1 pick gets completely overlooked.

I believe that Nick Benjamin was at least the East's nominee for top rookie back in the mid 1980s. He might have even won but I can't recall.
There is one thing that no Argo fan should ever forget - Rob Ford, Doug Ford, Paul Godfrey, Phil Lind and Larry Tanenbaum are all pure evil!
