Well, the poll in the Ottawa Sun and the answers on the street seem to have it. The majority don't like the name Red-Blacks.

Ya, agreed. The name's only getting 8-9% support,

but the real question is, what name will get overwhelming support other than the one they're not allowed to use?

They'd be insulting two visible minorities at once with that name.

Glen, and 294 .....Are we the only ones still hanging around in 13thman these days ? :hmm:

While I admitthat I was absent from the forum for quite a while, I'm back now. I think a lot of others have gone to FaceBook and that other Social Media junk. I got bored with it so I'm back.

Ya, not too busy around these parts lately.

I think this site was one of the first CFL sites, but then each team got their own site and people just stay there, I left as my team left, but I said I'd be back when my team's back, and I'm so happy to be back.

Hopefully more follow,

It's been an anemic year here but we've been holding the fort and my guess is now that the overhyped hoopla over the 100th GC is over this site might get a real boost with an exciting season awaiting us.

Like Glen said earlier in this thread, " OMG, people will laugh at us and call them the "Rod-Blacks" ! :rotf:

Just his opinion for now. The wave of negative responses to this article may yet sway the vote.

As a Saskatchewan fan, if the situation was reversed, Saskatchewan folded and Ottawa survived, and Saskatchewan was to get a new franchise, I would say that the new Saskatchewan fanchise would have to get a new name. Sure it would take a lot of getting used to, but for the good of the league, that's what has to be done. If a team name is to be so revered just because it's old, then shouldn't an even older name be even more appealing for those Ottawa fans stuck in the past? The first documented football team in the Ottawa area was named the Rangers. Team colours can still be red and black, colours which have a long history in Ottawa sports. You can still have an R on the helmet. Still works with local sports history, and moves the league forward by having no (ahem) roughly duplicated team names.

Expect the cfl to do a make-over:

Toronto Pale Blue-Dark Blues
Hamilton Yellow-blacks
Winnipeg Gold-blues
SSK Green-whites
BC Orange-blacks
Edmonton Yellow-Greens
Montreal Silver-Red-White-Blues
Calgary.....uh......dang, there already is a Red-Blacks ;)

I would change, "As a Saskatchewan fan", to just yourself personally, Every year at the Grey Cup, there are tons of Saskatchewan fans, and when they see me wearing the Ottawa jersey, (Renegades), they often approach me and ask who I want to come back as, To avoid any debate, I always just give the answer, "I don't care, I just want to come back" which is really true for myself speaking, but I'm always amazed how many say they want us to come back as the Rough Riders. I really appreciate it, because it shows they are a fan of the league and the history, and feels very welcoming to me.

Grey Cup is where you'll find the best fans anywhere, so it means so much.

Looks like Desjardins will be named the GM from a press conference early tomorrow afternoon too!

Just great to see things happening
