Texas A&M and Oklahoma were apparently offered invitations from the SEC, and were ready to accept until Texas decided to stay with a 10-team Big 12 for now. Texas was unsure about the Pac Ten, but Texas A&M really didn't want to go. Rumour has it the next Big 12 TV contract will pay out $17-20 million to Texas, A&M, and Oklahoma, and $14 million to the others, but that's not a done deal.

The general impression is that there will be no more expansion for now, but within the next decade a conference will start a major realignment by expanding to 16 teams. The fact that Texas Tech's new coach was fined recently by the Big 12 for saying that the conference wouldn't last more than two years shows how sensitive an issue this is.

I heard that Baylor offered up their share of the TV money to the other Texas schools as incentive to stay. << My country singing wife
