Is the bloom coming off the Toronto Soccer Club?

The CFL is alive and well
We don't need the NFL

There can't be any more than 15k at today's Toronto FC game and while MLSE reported that a less than capacity crowd of 20k were on hand for the home opener last week, there appeared to be considerably less than that. TV ratings continue to be small although better than in the U.S. where they are almost nonexistent. Vancouver will probably be okay because they have always supported soccer better but the "trendiness" factor in Toronto seems to have dissipated. (What happened to that long waiting list for TFC season tickets anyway?)

Argotom may not be completely accurate about MLS and TFC not surviving over the long-term but the financial health of the league is certainly poor (how anyone pays $35-$40 million for a franchise is one of life's great mysteries) and they are starting to get down to only the hard-core fans in Toronto. From what I can see, it is hard to make an argument that the game at the professional level in North America has grown in any way (re: fan support and interest) since the 1970s.
There is one thing that no Argo fan should ever forget - Rob Ford, Doug Ford, Paul Godfrey, Phil Lind and Larry Tanenbaum are all pure evil!

Soccer simply is not a mainstream sport in North America, nor is it going to be in the near future.

Kids play soccer because it is inexpensive for them to do so: most then gravitate away to football, basketball, baseball, hockey.

We have been hearing about the Great Emergence of soccer as the dominant sport in North America for 40 years ; how soon is "inevitable"?

Maybe so, FYB, but I am tired of that prediction/lie.

When you tarp off sections of Empire because they don't sell, then say you had a sellout, that's bs imo.

The CFL may be bush league, but never as bush league as that. I am surprised that Steve Nash and Bob Lennarduzi are involved with shenanigans like that.

I would say that a legit sellout is selling all the tickets you plan on and hope to sell, regardless of how big the stadium or building is.

To me, a sellout is selling all the seats in the building that you play in.

But wtf do I know, after all, I'm a moron Mod.

since you posted right after me, and apparantly in response to my post (maybe it just looked that way), I was saying that I hope you dont suggest that I am one who would call you a moron mod.

No use explaining yourself to a mod, FYB. He'll never get it.

The Argos close the 500 level and put banners over the seats.

I have never heard the Argos call that a sellout, as the Whitecaps do when they tarp sections off.

Ok. What is considered an announced sell out for the Argos? An announced sell out is never every seat in the building. As for the Whitecaps I can understand not selling seats in certain sections due to the sightlines.
