CANADA OFF TO 2-1 START

Edmontown is hosting this tournament. There was a bit of a rain delay in Sunday's games. The USA v Netherlands game is one which was held up.

Anyhow, Canada is in fine shape to qualify for the quarter-final round since 4 of the 6 teams in each pool will advance. Puerto Rico is off to a 3-0 start. Canada's remaining round-robin games are against Puerto Rico and the Czech Republic.

Update:

The USA won the rain delayed game against the Netherlands on Sunday. On Monday, Canada had a day off and the USA hammered the Commies (no, not the Cubans, the Bolsheviks). On Tuesday, the USA just beat Mexico before I posted, while Canada remains in action against Puerto Rico. For updates on the score, [CLICK HERE].

If Canada can beat Puerto Rico they would force a 3-way tie for 1st place in Pool B (between themselves, PR, and Cuba, who would all be 3-1. With a loss, TC would likely finish 3rd and have to play the 2nd place team from Pool A in the quarter-finals.

The USA and Korea lead Pool A, both at 3-0.

Update:

Canada's big win (18-7) over Puerto Rico was more than a bit of a shocker. Puerto Rico had beaten Cuba and were an unbeaten team. The result leaves Canada in a 3-way tie at 3-1 with Cuba and Puerto Rico atop Pool B.

Rain is a factor yet again out in Edmontown. Canada v Czech Republic was rained out and will be played on Thursday.

However, over in Pool A the Kangaroos beat the Commies 8-0 to nail down 3rd place. Also, Mexico beat Netherlands 8-3 in a game to decide the 4th and final playoff berth from that pool. Korea leads the USA 3-2 in the 7th as I post, in a game that will determine 1st place in the pool.

Round-robin ends

The Yanks came back to edge Korea on Wednesday and take the top spot in Pool A.

Today, Canada wiped the Czech Republic. But a Taiwanese win over Puerto Rico prevented the 3-way tie which would have given Canada top spot in Pool B. So Canada will get 2nd place and play Australia in the cross-over quarter-final round.

Interesting the way the match-ups are going. You have two Commonwealth countries in one game (Can-Oz), the USA plays one of its territories (PR) in another, there is the Asian Championship (Kor-Tai), and a Latino Heat game (Cuba-Mex).

No results are available anywhere for the final game of the night. I am wondering if there was a rain delay.
