What games do you play?

Talk about the Pick em Pool, CFL Fantasy Football, or Computer Gaming.

What games do you play?

Post by LFITQ » Tue Dec 19, 2006 2:11 pm

Ok let's back off the video games for a bit and let's go back to actual human interaction ...

What games do you play and what ones do you really like for 2 player, multiplayer, etc.?

We are talking about card games, board games, miniature games, etc... You know some that might actually force you to sit at a table with no computer/monitor screen in font of you, possibly even using paper and pencil to do calculations ...

List them off folks....

I'll start off my own thread and list that I really like Munchkin the card game from steve Jackson games. (see avatar).

Bought my nephew Heroscape and that actually looks pretty interesting.
I'm also a Star Wars fan so the Star Wars Minis game looks intriguing but I generally don't like collectible games like that where the "expansion" pack you buy is completely random.

We have a pretty active gaming community in Regina. Our board game group meets every Thursday from about 7 - midnight and we play a very broad array of board games (mostly German in origin). We also have a games day once a month at one of the community centers in town where we play more board games, role playing games, card games, war games...all sorts of stuff (even some Munchkin to fill time).

Would one of those happen to be Carcassonne? I noticed it today in my local games shop. Guy standing next to me raved about it.

Looking to get some ideas for some new games, espeically if they are at least semi-fun at the two-player level.

I play Carcassone almost every day online with folks from Germany. It's a very good game (it won Germany's top game design prize the year it was released). It plays well with any number of players, but does actually play best with 2. Like Munchkin, there are several expansions available for it all of which add a new element of some sort to the game.

Other games Big J highly recommends:

Settlers of Catan - The game that got most of the people in our group hooked on German board games and the top selling German game ever. Plays best with 4 people, but therre are some decent variant rules online for 2.

Tichu - A parnership trick taking card game that's like Bridge but with Poker hands, it's currently our main time waster. 4 players only.

Acquire - My favourite game of all time, which criminally is out of print at the current time (but dozens of copies are always on ebay). Buy stocks in hotels, place tiles to make hotels bigger and collect money when hotels merge.

If you see anything else in your local games store you want to know about just ask, I've probabbly played it at least once.

Zombies!!! - thought it might be good for my nephew (14yrs old)

Wings of War - that's for me ;)
