Gridiron Master - anyone else own it?

Post by LFITQ » Tue Oct 23, 2007 1:22 pm

I just recently found out about a board game called "Gridiron Master". It is a boardgame which combines Chess with football. And here's the real kicker - it has it's own CANADIAN version of the game.

And it is a truly Canadian version as the Canadian version is not just some painted on special rules on an american board - the board actually has a 55 yardline and is wider. If you see the 2 boxes together you will note there is a HUGE size difference.

I picked my copy up this weekend in Richmond.

I'm just trying to decipher the rules and figure it all out before playing it for real and giving it a rating, but I was wondering if there was anyone else on here that has it or has played it that could possibly answer a few questions?

The website is http://www.gridironmaster.com

It is endorsed by the CFLPA.

You can find it on Boardgamegeek.com at this link.

The board is beautifully made with some great looking pieces and is SOLID. Gameplay seems to be pretty good at first glance, but I need to play it a bit more to get a real feel.

Hi there, we are the GridIron Master publishers.

If you sign up at boardgamegeek.com you will find rule and gamplay discussions in the game's forum.
It's a fresh release. Glad to hear you like it!

If anybody is in the Toronto area you can give it a try at our booth at the Argo's streetfest or in the Roger's centre during the game.

Yep already posted a few questions on BGG.com

I think it is all coming together ....

Now time to get the wife interested.

Also, I've been requestd to figure out how to turn it into a drinking game for Grey Cup... Shouldn't be too hard.

I have a board game called Sports Action Canadian Pro Football from the 80s it was an awesome game my friends and I used to play it all the time theres a solitare version of it too. I used to paly entire seasons. This game could be turned into a computer game easily I think. You basically call the play roll the dice and it will tell you what do do based on what the defense did.

SAG is a great game. You can download a few seasons at tabletop-sports.com (in the downloads, section, under football). The best (actually only) CFL computer game I've seen is Grant Lederhouse's game. That's a lot of fun.

Just to update this: they have released the 2008 teams and rosters for the game. Helps to pass the time with no Saturday/Sunday games yet.
