OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27

Your prayers have been answered! The OHT27 is back for another year. And everybody is wondering which fans of Hollywood will inspire this year's thread. Well, I don't seek out the ladies. The ladies seek out me. What would happen this year? It must have been fate.

In doing some hockey research, I came across a story about Laurier. Everybody knows it used to be Waterloo Lutheran. But before that it was Waterloo College. And its teams were called the "Mules"! [LINK]

So this got me thinking they should go back to that name. I shall henceforth refer to the team as the Laurier Mules. Then I thought about this:

Which led to the thought: "What would their logo look like?" Some research came up with this:

Image

Now for what was Hee Haw famous? Ladies in cut off blue jeans! And who perfected this look?

Image

That's right, DAISY DUKE! Now I see that down in the States, Florida State has many groups of Daisy Duke fans out there. Here are some samples:

This should be a truly inspired season. Here are links to the OHT27's of the past:

It's time to report on the Laurier Mules' opener. With help from retro Hee Haw girls Misty Rowe and Lisa Todd. Here's this weekend's exhibition scoreboard. Nobody got jabroni status. But maybe it's OK to call Toronto or Cartoon U jackasses after their losses.

Week 1

Post by Hollywood2 » Sun Aug 27, 2017 8:28 pm

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - PRE-SEASON/WEEK 1

Here is the opening OHT27. Please remember that:

1. This is NOT a predictive ranking.
2. The rankings will change A LOT as more results come in.

The CW starts Friday night with 3 games, including one at IGF. The rest have started so this is the "Week 1" ranking.

Since we are early in the season, I am utilizing a variety of models for inspiration this week. I think we all know that the true Daisy Duke, Catherine Bach, is due for an appearance in due time.

Image

PRIOR OHT27s:
2016 - final

STEP 1: RESULTS

EXHIBITION GAMES

Aug 23 #Regina 39 Calgary 3
Aug 23 #Alberta 30 UBC 33
Aug 25 #Saskatchewan 10 McMaster 22

REGULAR SEASON

Aug 25 St. F.X. 23 Saint Mary's 38
Aug 25 Montreal 37 Concordia 19
Aug 26 Acadia 23 Mount Allison 64
Aug 26 Carleton 22 Queen's 17
Aug 26 Sherbrooke 5 Laval 40
Aug 27 Waterloo 54 Windsor 33
Aug 27 Toronto 0 Laurier 39
Aug 27 Ottawa 24 Guelph 21 - 2OT
Aug 27 Western Ontario 66 York 3

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

Image

CANADA WEST

1 Regina (0-0, 1-0) beat Cal#
2 UBC (0-0, 1-0) beat Alta#
3 Alberta (0-0, 0-1) lost UBC#
4 Saskatchewan (0-0, 0-1) lost McM#
5 Calgary (0-0, 0-1) lost Reg#
n/r Manitoba (0-0, 0-0)

The odd number of teams in all eastern conferences means that they all have to start early to accommodate bye weeks. So the CW is "exhibition only" at this stage. My guess is Calgary is better than their whipping by Regina. But we'll see.

Image

ONTARIO

1 Ottawa (1-0, 1-0) beat Gue
2 McMaster (0-0, 1-0) beat Sask#
3 W. Ontario (1-0, 1-0) beat York*
4 Carleton (1-0, 1-1) beat Que lost Lav#
5 Guelph (0-1, 2-1) beat SFX# MtA# lost Ott
6 Queen's (0-1, 1-1) beat McG# lost Car
7 Laurier (1-0, 1-1) lost Con# beat Tor*
8 Waterloo (1-0, 0-0) beat Wind*
9 Windsor (0-1, 0-1) lost Wat
10 Toronto (0-1, 0-2) lost Mtl# Lau
11 York (0-1, 0-2) lost Sher# UWO

That 3-way deal was an oddity and hard to gauge. For purposes of the rankings, I had Guelph ahead of Mount Allison and both ahead of St. F.X. Waterloo must be dancing for joy. Is it too early to make a jabroni call on Windsor, Toronto, and York?

Image

QUEBEC

1 Laval (1-0, 2-0) beat Car# Sher
2 Montreal (1-0, 2-0) beat Tor# Con
3 Concordia (0-1, 1-1) beat Lau# lost Mtl
4 McGill (0-0, 0-1) lost Que#
5 Sherbrooke (0-1, 1-1) beat York# lost Lav

Yes, I know that Laval and Montreal are strong teams. But where do the rest fit into national rankings? The end of Q&A interlock will make relative rankings a challenge for those teams.

Image

ATLANTIC

1 Saint Mary's (1-0, 2-0) beat Aca# SFX
2 Mount Allison (1-0, 2-1) beat SFX# Aca lost Gue#
3 St. FX (0-1, 0-3) lost Gue# MtA# SMU
4 Acadia (0-1, 0-1) lost SMU# MtA
n/r Bishop's (0-0, 0-0)

Are the SMUskies planning a return to glory? It will be hard to gauge without interlock.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

Image

"POTENTIAL CONTENDERS"
1 Regina (0-0, 1-0) beat Cal#
2 Laval (1-0, 2-0) beat Car# Sher
3 Montreal (1-0, 2-0) beat Tor# Con
4 Ottawa (1-0, 1-0) beat Gue

"COULD GO EITHER WAY"
5 UBC (0-0, 1-0) beat Alta#
6 McMaster (0-0, 1-0) beat Sask#
7 W. Ontario (1-0, 1-0) beat York*
8 Alberta (0-0, 0-1) lost UBC#
9 Carleton (1-0, 1-1) beat Que lost Lav#
10 Saint Mary's (1-0, 2-0) beat Aca# SFX
11 Saskatchewan (0-0, 0-1) lost McM#
12 Guelph (0-1, 2-1) beat SFX# MtA# lost Ott
13 Mount Allison (1-0, 2-1) beat SFX# Aca lost Gue#
14 Calgary (0-0, 0-1) lost Reg#
15 Concordia (0-1, 1-1) beat Lau# lost Mtl
16 Queen's (0-1, 1-1) beat McG# lost Car
17 Laurier (1-0, 1-1) lost Con# beat Tor*
18 McGill (0-0, 0-1) lost Que#
19 Sherbrooke (0-1, 1-1) beat York# lost Lav
20 Waterloo (1-0, 0-0) beat Wind*

"JABRONIS-IN-WAITING"
21 St. FX (0-1, 0-3) lost Gue# MtA# SMU
22 Windsor (0-1, 0-1) lost Wat
23 Toronto (0-1, 0-2) lost Mtl# Lau
24 York (0-1, 0-2) lost Sher# UWO
25 Acadia (0-1, 0-1) lost SMU# MtA

"THE UNRANKED"
n/r Bishop's (0-0, 0-0)
n/r Manitoba (0-0, 0-0)

As usual: Caution, these rankings are very preliminary. Things could change dramatically.

Week 2

Post by Hollywood2 » Wed Sep 06, 2017 10:40 pm

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 2

After the opening of the CW, and week 2 elsewhere, it seems as though there could be some extreme divisions in this year's rankings. Did you know that Barbi Benton was once a Hee Haw Honey? What a weird show that was. Banjos and cut-offs. When colour TV comes to Saskatchewan they'll be all over that one.

Image

PRIOR OHT27s:
2016 - final
week 1

STEP 1: RESULTS

Aug 31 Concordia 23 Sherbrooke 22
Sep 01 Mount Allison 0 St. F.X. 37
Sep 01 Laval 50 McGill 14
Sep 01 Saskatchewan 44 Manitoba 23
Sep 01 U.B.C. 20 Regina 36
Sep 01 Calgary 55 Alberta 26
Sep 02 Bishop's 10 Acadia 27
Sep 03 McMaster 23 Carleton 9
Sep 04 York 8 Waterloo 52
Sep 04 Queen's 13 Ottawa 14
Sep 04 Guelph 34 Western Ontario 41
Sep 04 Windsor 12 Toronto 19

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

Image
My mechanic, Angela Jennings, introduces the CW.

CANADA WEST

1 Regina (1-0, 2-0) beat Cal# UBC
2 Saskatchewan (1-0, 1-1) beat Man lost McM#
3 Calgary (1-0, 1-1) beat Alta lost Reg#
4 UBC (0-1, 1-1) beat Alta# lost Reg
5 Manitoba (0-1, 0-1) lost Sask
6 Alberta (0-1, 0-2) lost UBC# Cal

Regina looks like the real deal. I suspect Bedrock U will join them but right now that's guesswork. Key game already coming for the Herd against the T-irds.

Image
Danielle Robertson introduces the OUA.

ONTARIO

1 McMaster (1-0, 2-0) beat Sask# Carl
2 Ottawa (2-0, 2-0) beat Gue Que
3 W. Ontario (2-0, 2-0) beat York* Gue
4 Carleton (1-1, 1-2) beat Que lost Lav# McM
5 Guelph (0-2, 2-2) beat SFX# MtA# lost Ott UWO
6 Laurier (1-0, 1-1) beat Tor* lost Con#
7 Queen's (0-2, 1-2) beat McG# lost Car Ott
8 Waterloo (2-0, 2-0) beat Wind* York*
9 Toronto (1-1, 1-2) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau
10 Windsor (0-2, 0-2) lost Wat Tor*
11 York (0-2, 0-3) lost Sher# UWO Wat

The big news here is that Waterloo has now won twice. Solid wins, too. No early whistle due to a curfew in a tight game. But it's always hard to gauge teams who have only beaten jabronis. It would still be great for Waterloo to upgrade to ham'n'egger this year. Above Waterloo we have a very tight bunch of teams, all capable of almost any re-ordering in upcoming weeks. For now, the McUniversity edges the UfOs and Urban Cowboys in the top bunch. And the next bunch of Cartoon U, Goof, Jackass College, and the Queens are basically pick 'em.

Image
Josephine Skriver takes us to the RSEQ.

QUEBEC

1 Laval (2-0, 3-0) beat Car# Sher McG
2 Montreal (1-0, 2-0) beat Tor# Con
3 Concordia (1-1, 2-1) beat Lau# Sher lost Mtl
4 Sherbrooke (0-2, 1-2) beat York# lost Lav Con
5 McGill (0-1, 0-2) lost Que# Lav

There are only 5 teams here but clearly two distinct levels. (I guess that's a 21st century use of “distinct society” for Quebec.) Anybody picking something other than Laval v Montreal for the Dunsmore?

Image
Alexa turns her back on the AUS.

ATLANTIC

1 Saint Mary's (1-0, 2-0) beat Aca# SFX
2 St. F.X. (1-1, 1-3) beat MtA lost Gue# MtA# SMU
3 Mount Allison (1-1, 2-2) beat SFX# Aca* lost Gue# SFX
4 Acadia (1-1, 1-2) beat Bish* lost SMU# MtA
5 Bishop's (0-1, 0-1) lost Aca*

Rough intro for Bishop's to the AUS. Nice turn-around for St. F.X. With the SMUskies on a bye week we have to wait at least one more week to see if they for real, or an AUS facsimile thereof.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

Image
Jenna Drouin hitches a ride to this week's blend.

"POTENTIAL CONTENDERS"
1 Regina (1-0, 2-0) beat Cal# UBC
2 Laval (2-0, 3-0) beat Car# Sher McG
3 Montreal (1-0, 2-0) beat Tor# Con

"COULD GO EITHER WAY"
4 McMaster (1-0, 2-0) beat Sask# Carl
5 Saskatchewan (1-0, 1-1) beat Man lost McM#
6 Ottawa (2-0, 2-0) beat Gue Que
7 Calgary (1-0, 1-1) beat Alta lost Reg#
8 W. Ontario (2-0, 2-0) beat York* Gue
9 Carleton (1-1, 1-2) beat Que lost Lav# McM
10 Concordia (1-1, 2-1) beat Lau# Sher lost Mtl
11 UBC (0-1, 1-1) beat Alta# lost Reg
12 Saint Mary's (1-0, 2-0) beat Aca# SFX
13 Guelph (0-2, 2-2) beat SFX# MtA# lost Ott UWO
14 Laurier (1-0, 1-1) beat Tor* lost Con#
15 Manitoba (0-1, 0-1) lost Sask
16 Queen's (0-2, 1-2) beat McG# lost Car Ott
17 St. F.X. (1-1, 1-3) beat MtA lost Gue# MtA# SMU
18 Sherbrooke (0-2, 1-2) beat York# lost Lav Con
19 McGill (0-1, 0-2) lost Que# Lav
20 Mount Allison (1-1, 2-2) beat SFX# Aca* lost Gue# SFX
21 Waterloo (2-0, 2-0) beat Wind* York*
22 Alberta (0-1, 0-2) lost UBC# Cal

"JABRONIS-IN-WAITING"
23 Toronto (1-1, 1-2) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau
24 Acadia (1-1, 1-2) beat Bish* lost SMU# MtA
25 Windsor (0-2, 0-2) lost Wat Tor*
26 York (0-2, 0-3) lost Sher# UWO Wat
27 Bishop's (0-1, 0-1) lost Aca*

These rankings are still very volatile. There are a lot of significant match-ups next week between teams in the same neighbourhood, which should allow some winnowing to occur.

Week 3

Post by Hollywood2 » Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:48 pm

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 3

There were some big games on the weekend. Ones that may have a dramatic effect on rankings for the rest of the season. So this week we have the lovely Jen Heward, and her pick-up truck, to help us out.

Image

PRIOR OHT27s:
2016 - final
week 1
week 2

STEP 1: RESULTS

Canada West
Sep 08 Regina 26 Calgary 46
Sep 08 Alberta 17 Saskatchewan 43
Sep 09 Manitoba 18 UBC 32

Ontario
Sep 09 Windsor 10 Guelph 81
Sep 09 Western Ontario 29 McMaster 14
Sep 09 Ottawa 26 York 17
Sep 09 Toronto 23 Waterloo 28
Sep 09 Carleton 35 Laurier 38

Quebec
Sep 09 Laval 16 Montreal 21
Sep 09 McGill 18 Sherbrooke 16

Atlantic
Sep 09 Acadia 38 St. F.X. 24
Sep 09 Saint Mary's 40 Bishop's 21

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

Image

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (2-0, 2-1) beat Alta Reg lost Reg#
2 Regina (1-1, 2-1) beat Cal# UBC lost Cal
3 Saskatchewan (2-0, 2-1) beat Man Alta lost McM#
4 UBC (1-1, 2-1) beat Alta# Man lost Reg
5 Manitoba (0-2, 0-2) lost Sask UBC
6 Alberta (0-2, 0-3) lost UBC# Cal Sask

Bedrock U avenged their pre-season loss to the Lambs, so they vault to #1. After those two, the rest kinda fall into place.

Image

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (3-0, 3-0) beat York* Gue McM
2 Ottawa (3-0, 3-0) beat Gue Que York*
3 McMaster (1-1, 2-1) beat Sask# Carl lost UWO
4 Laurier (2-0, 2-1) beat Tor* Carl lost Con#
5 Guelph (1-2, 3-2) beat SFX# MtA# Wind* lost Ott UWO
6 Carleton (1-2, 1-3) beat Que lost Lav# McM Laur
7 Queen's (0-2, 1-2) beat McG# lost Car Ott
8 Waterloo (3-0, 3-0) beat Wind* York* Tor*
9 Toronto (1-2, 1-3) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat
10 York (0-3, 0-4) lost Sher# UWO Wat Ott
11 Windsor (0-3, 0-3) lost Wat Tor* Gue

So how good is Waterloo? They deserve loads of credit but they may be the weakest 3-0 team in history. So far the teams are falling in line rather easily. It's about time for some shockers here. Shouldn't Windsor be better?

Image

QUEBEC

1 Montreal (2-0, 3-0) beat Tor# Con Lav
2 Laval (2-1, 3-1) beat Car# Sher McG lost Mtl
3 Concordia (1-1, 2-1) beat Lau# Sher lost Mtl
4 McGill (1-1, 1-2) beat Sher lost Que# Lav
5 Sherbrooke (0-3, 1-3) beat York# lost Lav Con McG

Hey, Montreal beat Laval and McGill beat Sherbrooke in head-to-head match0ups, making this ranking simple.

Image

ATLANTIC

1 Saint Mary's (2-0, 3-0) beat Aca# SFX Bish*
2 Mount Allison (1-1, 2-2) beat SFX# Aca lost Gue# SFX
3 Acadia (2-1, 2-2) beat Bish* SFX lost SMU# MtA
4 St. F.X. (1-2, 1-4) beat MtA lost Gue# MtA# SMU Aca
5 Bishop's (0-2, 0-2) lost Aca SMU

We have our first A beat B, B beat C, and C beat A situation of the season. This puts the Mounted, Cajuns, and Jeremies in a bundle. SMU is entrenched at the top and Bishop's at the bottom.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

Image

"POTENTIAL CONTENDERS"
1 Montreal (2-0, 3-0) beat Tor# Con Lav
2 Calgary (2-0, 2-1) beat Alta Reg lost Reg#

4 Laval (2-1, 3-1) beat Car# Sher McG lost Mtl
5 W. Ontario (3-0, 3-0) beat York* Gue McM
6 Ottawa (3-0, 3-0) beat Gue Que York*

"COULD GO EITHER WAY"
7 McMaster (1-1, 2-1) beat Sask# Carl lost UWO
8 Saskatchewan (2-0, 2-1) beat Man Alta lost McM#
9 Concordia (1-1, 2-1) beat Lau# Sher lost Mtl
10 Laurier (2-0, 2-1) beat Tor* Carl lost Con#
11 UBC (1-1, 2-1) beat Alta# Man lost Reg
12 Guelph (1-2, 3-2) beat SFX# MtA# Wind* lost Ott UWO
13 Carleton (1-2, 1-3) beat Que lost Lav# McM Laur
14 Queen's (0-2, 1-2) beat McG# lost Car Ott
15 McGill (1-1, 1-2) beat Sher lost Que# Lav
16 Saint Mary's (2-0, 3-0) beat Aca# SFX Bish*

"LEANING HAM'N'EGGER"
17 Manitoba (0-2, 0-2) lost Sask UBC
18 Sherbrooke (0-3, 1-3) beat York# lost Lav Con McG
19 Waterloo (3-0, 3-0) beat Wind* York* Tor*
20 Mount Allison (1-1, 2-2) beat SFX# Aca lost Gue# SFX
21 Acadia (2-1, 2-2) beat Bish* SFX lost SMU# MtA
22 St. F.X. (1-2, 1-4) beat MtA lost Gue# MtA# SMU Aca
23 Alberta (0-2, 0-3) lost UBC# Cal Sask

"JABRONIS-IN-WAITING"
24 Toronto (1-2, 1-3) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat
25 York (0-3, 0-4) lost Sher# UWO Wat Ott
26 Bishop's (0-2, 0-2) lost Aca SMU
27 Windsor (0-3, 0-3) lost Wat Tor* Gue

It'll take another week to declare the categories. But I think most teams are falling into the old categories.

10 York (0-3, 0-4) lost Sher# UWO Wat Ott

It is hard to plug in Laurier and Waterloo. What a great improvement by Waterloo. Perhaps the best in OHT27 history.

The only issue here is: Who gets #2? For now, Laval.

5 Bishop's (1-2, 0-2) beat MtA lost Aca SMU

That win by Bishop's changes a lot. After SMU, these teams are all beating one another. This means they are in a dead heat, and belong in the same rankings segment.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 5

Seems we just got started, and already we are just past the half-way point of the regular season. Deep thought is required from two lovely assistants. Alix Townsend was kicked off a plane for wearing this outfit.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni.

Image
Alix looks good on approach.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (4-0, 4-1) beat Alta Reg Man Sask lost Reg#
2 UBC (3-1, 4-1) beat Alta# Man Sask Alta lost Reg
3 Regina (2-2, 3-2) beat Cal# UBC Alta lost Cal Man
4 Saskatchewan (2-2, 2-2) beat Man Alta lost McM# UBC Cal
5 Manitoba (1-3, 1-3) beat Reg lost Sask UBC Cal
6 Alberta (0-4, 0-5) lost UBC# Cal Sask Reg UBC

The Manitoba win over Regina makes this more like a typical CW season, where we have a couple of “loops”, i.e. A beat B, B beat C, and C beat A. Omitting the two teams from Saudi Alberta, the standings are:
UBC 2-1
Reg 1-1
Sask 1-1
Man 1-2

That Banjoland Battle coming next week is a very significant game rankings-wise. Who would have thought there could exist a scenario where Manitoba could overtake Regina in the rankings before the bye week?

Image
Alix dazzles on departure.

ONTARIO

1 W. Ontario (5-0, 5-0) beat York* Gue McM Wind* Que
2 McMaster (3-1, 4-1) beat Sask# Carl Ott Gue lost UWO
3 Laurier (4-0, 4-1) beat Tor* Carl Que Wat lost Con#
4 Ottawa (4-1, 4-1) beat Gue Que York* Wind* lost McM
5 Waterloo (4-1, 4-1) beat Wind* York* Tor* Carl lost Laur
6 Carleton (1-3, 1-4) beat Que lost Lav# McM Laur Wat
7 Queen's (0-4, 1-4) beat McG# lost Car Ott Laur UWO
8 Guelph (2-3, 4-3) beat SFX# MtA# Wind* Tor* lost Ott UWO McM
9 York (1-3, 1-4) beat Tor* lost Sher# UWO Wat Ott
10 Toronto (1-4, 1-5) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat Gue York*
11 Windsor (0-5, 0-5) lost Wat Tor* Gue UWO Ott

The Big Lemon was all abuzz over the epic battle between York and Toronto. Both teams are in the OUA's Top Ten! Otherwise all games were won by the higher ranked team. Laurier gets a boost with a win over Waterloo. I have my suspicions about Waterloo. But no matter what happens the rest of the way, they still might be the “team of the year” for their turn-about. By the way, here is the NJR (non-jabroni record) for the teams:
UWO 3-0
McM 3-1, 4-1
Laur 3-0, 3-1
Wat 1-1
Carl 1-3, 1-4
Que 0-4, 1-4
Gue 0-3, 2-3 (two mini-wins)

So the rankings have been adjusted accordingly. Funny that there is not yet a “loop” in the OUA results.

Image
Amia is also very inspirational.

QUEBEC

1 Montreal (4-0, 5-0) beat Tor# Con Lav Sher McG
2 Laval (3-1, 4-1) beat Car# Sher McG Con lost Mtl
3 Concordia (2-2, 3-2) beat Lau# Sher McG lost Mtl Lav
4 McGill (1-3, 1-4) beat Sher lost Que# Lav Con Mtl
5 Sherbrooke (0-4, 1-4) beat York# lost Lav Con McG Mtl

Laval escaped with a narrow win over Concordia. A loss would have dropped them very significantly in the rankings, and really thrown things for a loop. As it is, they cling to 2nd in the Q.

Image
Amia may have visited the AUS if they still played interlock with Quebec.

ATLANTIC

1 Saint Mary's (4-0, 5-0) beat Aca# SFX Bish Aca MtA
2 Acadia (2-2, 2-3) beat Bish SFX lost SMU# MtA SMU
3 St. F.X. (2-2, 2-4) beat MtA Bish lost Gue# MtA# SMU Aca
4 Mount Allison (1-3, 2-4) beat SFX# Aca lost Gue# SFX Bish SMU
5 Bishop's (1-3, 1-3) beat MtA lost Aca SMU SFX

The AUS has now completed a round-robin. Spots 2-5 are seemingly in a toss-up for the second round-robin of the season.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

Everybody from coast-to-coast can admire Amia.

14 Manitoba (1-3, 1-3) beat Reg lost Sask UBC Cal

26 Toronto (1-4, 1-5) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat Gue York*
27 Windsor (0-5, 0-5) lost Wat Tor* Gue UWO Ott

The Blob has been split in two. Right now, the “Lower Blob” teams have but one win against “Upper Blob” teams, and that is Manitoba's win over Regina. It is difficult to rank SMU and Manitoba within that group of OUA teams. Guelph's wins have been mini-exhibition games and jabroni victimizations.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 6

This last week there were some surprise results, creating many more ranking “loops” in every conference. With Thanksgiving next, we must all sit back and appreciate the hard-working farm gals out there. Such as Hillary Fisher.

6 Manitoba (1-4, 1-4) beat Reg lost Sask UBC Cal Alta

Calgary and Regina overcame opponents hoping for a leap-frog, and at the other end the Evil Monkeys finally got a win. You knew it had to be coming. This also creates a lot of loops in the rankings.

10 Toronto (1-4, 1-5) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat Gue York*
11 Windsor (0-6, 0-6) lost Wat Tor* Gue UWO Ott Que

The OUA had been falling into place every week, until now. The big games were Cartoon U beating UfO, and Guelph bring Waterloo back to Earth. Those 4 now form a mid-block, all of whom have beaten the others. How have they fared against one another?

Carl 1-1
Ott 1-1
Gue 1-1
Wat 1-1

Jeez. Well, Cartoon U and UfO have at least beaten half-decent Queen's so they go up top, and Guelph and Waterloo follow. Of course, those teams can easily switch in the coming weeks since they are basically in a dead heat right now.

Image
It takes great horticultural skill to farm in high heels.

4 McGill (1-4, 1-5) beat Sher lost Que# Lav Con Mtl Lav
5 Sherbrooke (1-4, 2-4) beat York# Con lost Lav Con McG Mtl

The Bees were looking like a sleeper team. Maybe that's the problem. They fell asleep and now hav a split against Sherbrooke. So we have another loop. And against one another they are:

Con 2-1
McG 1-1
Sher 1-2

Mount Allison sinks with another loss. The rest hold firm.

Calgary's unbeaten run through the CW gives them #1 overall. All the conferences now have a “loop” effect. So rankings become a challenge. Some winnowing has cut back the upper blob, and overall teams have been moved down a bit. The lower blob teams could easily become ham'n'eggers and vice versa.

Week 7

Post by Hollywood2 » Mon Oct 09, 2017 4:56 pm

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 7

The Thanksgiving weekend is the one where the leagues catch up on the byes. The CW is an even-numbered conference so they get the weekend off. I know that readers are most thankful for one thing: THE OHT27! In honour of the holiday, I present TWO of my biggest fans, Tool Time Girls Heidi (Debbe Dunning) and Lisa (Pamela Anderson), presented two at a time for comparitive purposes.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ø were reversed in league standings.

Image Image
Pamela got her start as a football fan. Debbe has always been a natural in items exclusively available at the Tool Time Store.

10 Toronto (1-5, 1-6) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat Gue York* McM
11 Windsor (0-6, 0-6) lost Wat Tor* Gue UWO Ott Que

By defeating Waterloo, Queen's gets to join in the loop where everybody wins and loses to the others. Here's how those mid-5 have fared against one another:

Carl 2-1
Ott 2-1
Gue 1-1
Que 1-2
Wat 1-2

So the Queens leapfrog Waterloo and the rest stand pat. It doesn't look like any of these teams will beat one of the top 3, nor lose to one of the bottom 3.

The OHT27 does not care about boardroom decisions. Technically, SFX gets a cheesy win over the SMUskies. Pshaw, I sez.

There was surprisingly little movement here. Queen's jumps from Ham'n'Egger to The Blob, and some AUS shuffling, and that's it. I have a hunch that Waterloo has reservations in Ham'n'Eggerville. But when you consider that they were not just Jabronis, but A**clowns, not so long ago, it is still a fantastic turn-around. I am not sold on Carleton but their record is what it is.

Week 8

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 8

Week 8 is done, and only 2 weeks are left in the regular season. Last week the rankings were motivated by the comparison of Tool Time girls Lisa and Heidi. This week, we need the age-old battle of brunette vs. blonde.

11 Windsor (0-7, 0-7) lost Wat Tor* Gue UWO Ott Que McM

The big fly in the ointment (which makes rankings interesting) is Guelph's win over Laurier. That result makes a six-team “loop”. That loop has two sub-sets. Ottawa beat Guelph, who beat Laurier. No loop there because Laurier has not beaten (nor played) Ottawa. The lower sub-set has just one win over the upper sub-set (Carleton over Ottawa). So Carleton has something to bump them above their loop, and Queen's beat Waterloo in head-to-head, thus completing the ranking. For what its worth, these are the records of the mid-level against one another:

Ott 3-1
Laur 3-1
Gue 2-1
Carl 2-2
Que 1-3
Wat 1-4

The OUA shuffle moved some teams around. Plus the march to the end of the season confirms where a lot of teams belong. I have consolidated The Blob, but for now at least McMaster and Regina are by themselves as “near contenders”.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 9

Throughout the Season of Shorts you may have noticed that many on the OHT27 committee wear hats, and many don't. So this week, we feature the hat vs. no hat debate to help us through a difficult ranking.

How about those Evil Monkeys! A big time butt whoopin on the Mangy Mutts pushes them up a spot. And Manitoba again came oh-so-close to another upset. But coulda shoulda woulda doesn't matter. That would have set up a big confrontation next week. Instead they will be playing spoiler.

ONTARIO

10 York (1-7, 1-8) beat Tor* lost Sher# UWO Wat Ott McM Laur Que Wind*
11 Toronto (1-7, 1-8) beat Wind* lost Mtl# Lau Wat Gue York* McM Carl Que

After a blah kinda season, the OUA has produced many rankings-busters in recent weeks. Good thing the OHT27 has an inspirational committee to sort this out. The Urban Cowboys get #1, and the jabronis are 9-10-11. Since the OUA does not play a full round-robin, we sort the rest by their record against one another:

Laur 4-1
McM 3-1
Ott 3-2
Gue 3-2
Carl 2-4
Que 1-3
Wat 1-4

Easy!

But the BIG NEWS is that Windsor beat York in the Jabroni Bowl. This produced a 3-way tie, and they all beat each other once. Of course, none had a win over anybody else. Windsor and York were both +9 in those games and Toronto -18. So by beating York by just enough points, they get the honour of Jabroni of the Year. York gets the honour of placing in the OUA Top Ten. And Toronto is the Big Lemon.

Both games produced an upset in games between beside each other in the standings. This caused two flips.

Neither “near contender” could break through. So The Blob grows. The failures of McMaster and Laurier to stay above the unwashed masses in the OUA brings them back to the pack. They remain above the rest of the OUA, but the gap is really tight. A case could be made to boost Manitoba, Queen's, and Acadia into The Blob.

And hats off to the dearly departed Waterloo. They still get an unofficial “Team of the Year” commendation fot their rise from A**clowns to Ham'n'Eggers.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 10

The regular season has now passed and the playoffs are upon us. Accordingly, this is the final OHT27 of the season. I know, it's an emotional time for everyone. So to make this special, the OHT27 committee is joined by the two Daisy Dukes: Catherine Bach from TV and Jessica Simpson from the movie. After all, this is how the “Daisy Dukes” got their name. IMHO, high heels are an essential component of the look.

The final week was quite eventful. The Bedrock Dinos took it easy and the Monkeys capitalized for a playoff berth. I have seen many competitions where one team beats another to advance, then beats them again in the playoffs. Mr. Slate would not like that. I don't believe that I have ever seen a team fall apart quite like Sask.

The Cajuns moved up by watching TV and seeing the SMUskies go for their late-season slide. Not as severe as their banjo-loving namesakes, but still not good.

Who would've thought Alberta would shoot up the rankings? The end of the CW season was quite strange. Alberta racked up the wins, and Manitoba came very close themselves. Acadia just sat still and watched others tumble. This was a strange ending. Lots of teams in The Blob finished poorly and the question was whether to move them down, or move others up. I chose the move down.

So there we have it. Hopefully the Usports moniker will lead to flag-waving university fans in Canada like there are in the USA. Let us be inspired by all the Daisy Dukes out there.
